What we’d like to see in Untitled Goose Game D.L.C.

It’s fair to say that untitled goose game took everyone in the world both by surprise and storm,
coming from nowhere with bright colourfull graphics, a deliciously devious sense of humour and
a delinquent goose to control and spread chaos around a small english village, which I’m
guessing from the visual clues around the place, it seems the residents are enjoying a very quiet,
lazy sunday morning, back in the 1980s.
  Until the goose came.
Why the 1980s? Well let's take a look at the most obvious things we can see about the village,
the cars and the TVs are all old, very out of date and more in line with the TVs from the 80’s.
Single mono speakers on one side of the screen, and a couple of them seem to be showing the
BBC’s old ceefax teletext service.
I can’t think of many shops where they try to sell old style CRTs TVs these days, certainly not
as their only stock, even if they are a specialist in that area. Although give it another twenty years
and there might just be antique shops stocking them.
Then there’s the cars, we only see a couple but they’re styled to look more like something you’d
find on the streets in the 70’s, and there were certainly plenty of those still on the roads in the 80’s.
And there are other clues too, see if you can find them.
But you know what? Regardless of the time the game might be set in, it still looks wonderful and plays like a naughty dream come true where you can have as much fun as you like without causing
anyone any harm.
Except maybe that little boy, I’m pretty sure he’s going to be wetting the bed for a few months and
need therapy from all the things the goose has done to him.
And I’m pretty sure the games designers, House House, have plenty of ideas for how to expand
the game further, and with it having been such a hit they must have some plans for DLC.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t, won’t and haven’t already thought of some of our own or even
just ways to improve the game in general. Some have even gone and suggested ideas that would
probably work as a whole new game. Goose in space, Die Hard with a goose, Goose mansion,
Mr Goose goes to Church or even new functions like a character designer and so on.
Here’s some of mine, ready to be honked at.

Change of camera angle and zooming in and out…
Zooming in and out was a very good idea, it let you concentrate on what you were trying to do and
let you check the wider area for any possible dangers of being rumbled by the locals. But having to
hold the buttons down all the time to stay zoomed did get a little annoying for some players, myself
included. So maybe giving an option to toggle the settings so the zoom stays zoomed with just a
press of the button until it’s pressed again could be added as an option?
Also the camera angle was very restrictive. I get that it was probably the intention to limit your field
of view, but being able to spin the camera around to get a better view is such a standard feature of
gaming today, it’s something that seems strange to be missing.
There are videos online showing people managing to use noclip functions and unlocking the
camera to take a look around the village in different ways to what's present in game, and the place
looks very good at most angles in these videos, giving it a very different feel in general. I’m not
saying you need to give full freedom of motion to it, but being able to does allow for some gorgeous
visuals to please the eyes even more than they already do.
These videos also make two things about the village the goose likes to terrorise very clear.
The village might be small, but it’s a lot bigger than what we get to play in, and the sections we
can’t get to, do include models, they just lack features such as windows and doors, or even other
models where there would be buildings in a real village.
Those are relatively easy fixes to put in if they decided to expand it further, even if they don’t give
you full control over the camera, but it would give the game just that little bit extra polish to it’s
already quite brightly shining glow, and if you did give these features to the buildings we can see
but can’t play with, that opens the door to being able to do just that later.

Add more people...
There were only a handful of people in the village, and even if the map was left alone and not
expanded in any way, then adding more people to the existing locations would be the most
immediately obvious and satisfying way to add more content.
Imagine that lakeside view you had when the main titles first rolled up, see a happy couple having a picnic, that you're going to ruin. That abandoned lawnmower we couldn’t interact with before, suddenly has an owner who's trying to fill it up with diesel, till you steal the can…Or cause an argument between the lawnmower owner and the groundkeeper by switching their gear over.
That wishing well had no one near it, despite the presence of an empty park bench and a mysteriously empty basket. Maybe the bench and basket were being used, till you HONKED and made someone fall down the wishing well?
I think we’ve all just thought of a new use for the walkie talkies now, and the extra hilarity of tormenting whoever the would be rescuer might be while they go off to help!
Say you head off to the pub and someone is trying to enjoy a pub meal, but you keep stealing their knives and forks, and when they do have them, HONK, there goes their food flying off to the other side of the beer garden.
Even add in some extra wildlife. Imagine scaring off some birds that are trying to feed on a bird table and the panic their low level flight causes a villager? HONK at a cat on a fence and watch the hilarity ensues as it tries to keep it’s balance, or wait till the cat is hunting a mouse and HONK to distract the cat and send the mouse fleeing into the TV shop causing the woman in the shop to panic and vacate the premises while the cat runs amok in the corner shops stock.
Idea that’s just come to my mind! The goose could help investigate a murder scene! Maybe even find the culprit. If I know my TV detectives who get annoyed at the outside help that they never asked for troupe, this would be a fun new variation on it.

And give the old cast even more to do…
Not to mention giving the existing villagers some more interactions, maybe even get them to move locations. Imagine if you annoy the groundkeeper so much he decides to go off to the
pub for a pint and ends up playing darts with the old man. The people in the pub might need to go to the corner shop to pick up more supplies because you’ve stolen the last of their napkins
and tomato sauce. Or the pipe smoker in his back garden suddenly no longer has his tobacco and has to go off on a wander to buy some more. The little boy decides to take his ball and go home and then off to the model village, and hey presto, more tormenting can begin.
And of course if more locations are added, then this means all of the cast can be updated to have more interactions with these locations and any new villagers in these places too. With further DLC, this would slowly become a much larger, more interactive little english village. I’m kinda fond of having another old man that the groundskeeper and dart player can hang
around with and go off on a stroll together while music indicative of Yorkshire starts playing. The BBC might have words about that one.
Maybe you could annoy everyone so much they give up what they happen to be going and go off for a pint, leading to one big, massive get together.
That you can cause all kinds of mischief at.

Make more use of that Random Gear lying about...
Remember where the fishing gear and other random odds and ends that no one seems to take ownership of? That parcel sitting on someone's front door and the letter left in a different letterbox? Even trying to deliver them to their would-be owners never seemed to work. They were either ignored or thrown out in the case of that one house you could get in, even though it’s addressed to them!
What if it did work? What if the goose could do good as well as CHAOS? What if the villagers gave things back to their rightful owners? Without breaking them? Mr Pipesmoker I’m looking at you.
I still want to see the publican have to buy back his own pint glasses though.

Develop the village a bit more...
Now we don’t actually need a lot of new buildings added to the village, at least not yet as far as a first batch of DLC is concerned. There’s still plenty in there already to play with, it's just they could do with a little more work. As for what could be added later on, well, stay tuned for more on that topic.
As previously mentioned due to the way the camera works there are models that are only partially developed as you can’t see all sections due to the fixed camera, and act more like
invisible walls to stop you straying too far. Now imagine those walls are down and you can move down those streets, and maybe even enter the buildings?
We can get into a garage and briefly the TV shop and that one house that sounds like the owner goes crazy trying to chase out the fowl feathered fiend that is the goose on the loose, breaking a lot of their stuff in the process, but imagine we can get into the other houses?
There’s at least one building next to the phone box that I’m pretty sure is some sort of public toilet so there’s all kinds of panic that can be caused in those. Is that cubicle locked? Let’s look under it and hear the frantic screaming of the person using it. Is the janitor trying to mop up some mess, lets clear off with the mop, and then go to the lake to clean out our bill, you don’t know where that mop has been.
There’s also what appears to be some sort of building that could be a watermill, imagine if you could play around in there and lower the water gates it has?
Picture the fun if we can get into the pub proper? Not just the beer garden but inside, I thinks theres a strong chance of some fun being had with the pool table, while there’s a high chance of someone playing on the piano, and if you’ve heard the games soundtrack, there’s a unused version of “Rule Britannia” as part of the back gardens theme that would be perfect to interrupt as a horrible goose as a prelude to the horror you wish to incur on the pup drinkers.
What about the houses of the two neighbours trying to enjoy their back gardens? I’d imagine the home of the artist would be every bit as eccentric as her garden is, full of things that could
be moved and broken or used to annoy next doors pipe smoker. As for his house, I kind of picture it being very clean and tidy and showing signs of OCD. There’s just something about him that kinda screams clean freak, aside from the pipe. So imagine how upset he would be with a messy house by yours truly?
As for extra locations well, how about a little playpark for the little boy to go to and try to socialize with other kids? Maybe the goose could guide this kid towards others and actually get some friends? And then put the fear of GOOSE in them all.
And there are two streets you can kind of walk down a bit, they surely should meet up and give you access to other areas? More on that later.

Let us get access to the castle…
If the model village gave us any clue to the sheer size of this village, it was by having a castle there.
A great big… blooming… castle… Which we’ve not had any fun with. Yet.
I am admittedly something of a castle fan. I love visiting these places, letting my mind fill in the blanks as to how it might have been to live and work in one. There’s something I’ve always found magical and fantastical about them before I even knew anything about magic and fantasy.
So seeing there is a great big castle included in the model village has me convinced there must be some plan to give you access to it. And by extension, cause all kinds of fowl feathered fun with whoever is inside it.
I can picture it right now, there’s bound to be a family there with kids running around causing chaos, maybe an older sibling tormenting the younger kid, and maybe the goose could use it’s powers of evil for good and teach the older kid a lesson?
There’s bound to be at least one person there with a camera trying to take some shots of the outside and inside, probably with a tripod so imagine the annoyance you can cause them by knocking that over, time after time after time, or just simply stealing their camera and taking photos of your own. I wonder if the shop owner thinks she sells those as well...
Not to mention the fun that could be had with the curators of the castle, see that plate armour standing by the door? You know you want to make it fall apart. Loose off that oddly loaded crossbow that’s lying around, you know you want to make that curators day. And is that a sword in a stone I see? Imagine if you could free it?
And a castle of that size is bound to have a carpark, park benches and picnic tables, all of which the game already has models for, they just need to be put in place to let the fun begin. Deflated tires anyone? More stolen sandwiches? Don’t mind if I do.

Let's go to church…
Remember you can hear the church bells ringing, indicating the end of the speed run challenge? That was a nice touch to have, a different way to how most of these challenges end up working. But of course we couldn’t see the church as there was no model made for it. Unless it’s actually the building behind what I think is the toilets… Time to look at those free camera videos again.
But if you expand the village a bit more, maybe give the goose the run of the roads, run past some other houses, get into their gardens and rooms and then maybe, just maybe the goose can also attend a service at the church? And maybe even try to cause chaos with the big bell in the tower?
Stealing items in the church would most likely make the local vicar wish he could ignore the bit about turning the other cheek, while the alter boys might very well end up running out of the church due to the passion of the goose.

And finally, let the snow in…
Just a random thought I had while editing, how about changing the season, reskinning the map and letting the north wind blow in and see how the villagers react to the cold of a deep, deep freeze? The groundskeeper trying to save his crops, the little boy slipping on the ice, the shop owner trying to deice the door to get into the shop, the pub owners gritting the path and trying to defrost the beer barrel they have outdoors for some reason.
And the goose has decided not to fly south...
Now this I feel would need to be done last, as this would need everything else programmed and working perfectly before trying something so massive as this. I say massive as this would most likely need to have whichever cast members are involved to be programmed doing very different things to what they’d normally do. After all, it is winter, it’s going to be cold and they’ll need to be wrapped up warm.
And then there’s the idea of a sequel…
But that might be best left till another time.

HONK!
